Overview
- Deputies were called around 3:30 p.m. to a Sheldon Avenue home in unincorporated Gilroy for a report of a shooting.
- Witnesses told deputies a family member shot a 68-year-old man, who was pronounced dead at 4:17 p.m.
- Nearby residences were evacuated as tactical teams tried for more than eight hours to contact the suspect.
- Deputies later located the suspect in the garage with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
- Detectives with the sheriff’s Investigative Services Division have assumed the case, and no identities have been released.
