Overview

  • Sgt. 1st Class Gil Rodriguez was named the 2025 MSCoE Drill Sergeant of the Year at an award ceremony on July 30 in Lincoln Hall Auditorium.
  • He outpaced seven finalists selected from more than 700 candidates in a four-day competition.
  • Competitors faced marksmanship, physical readiness, first aid, day infiltration, land navigation, instructional methods and a formal selection board under heat indexes up to 110 degrees.
  • Command Sgt. Maj. Jorge Arzabala said the contest seeks the most disciplined, fit and effective instructors to uphold Army training standards.
  • Rodriguez will compete for the U.S. Army Drill Sergeant of the Year title at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, in September.
