Overview

  • The Gifford Fire has consumed more than 119,000 acres and achieved “megafire” status as California’s largest wildfire of 2025, with containment holding at 33%.
  • Unified teams from Cal Fire, the U.S. Forest Service and local agencies have deployed over 4,000 firefighters supported by hundreds of engines, hand crews, dozers and water tenders.
  • Incident command reports the blaze is advancing toward Huasna Valley and crews have launched a 36-hour strategic firing operation to clear fuel along key flanks.
  • Mandatory evacuation orders and warnings cover over 40 zones in San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara counties, and State Route 166 plus large swaths of Los Padres National Forest remain closed.
  • The fire has destroyed at least two structures, injured three civilians and seven firefighters, and investigators continue to probe its cause.
