Overview

  • Stanton began a rehab assignment Tuesday at Double-A Somerset after missing the season with tendon injuries in both elbows
  • In his first game he went 2-for-3 with a two-run single and an RBI knock in an 8-1 win over the Portland Sea Dogs
  • Boone said Stanton is scheduled for back-to-back rehab games and will review his elbow response before deciding on a potential weekend return in Boston
  • The Yankees anticipate a short assignment since Stanton will serve exclusively as designated hitter and does not need defensive reps
  • Ben Rice has filled the DH role in Stanton’s absence and is expected to shift into more defensive opportunities once the veteran returns
