Overview

  • The 35-year-old slugger went 2-for-3 with three RBIs in his first rehab game for Double-A Somerset on June 10.
  • Because Stanton will serve solely as a designated hitter, his rehab stint is expected to be brief and could wrap up in just a few games.
  • Ben Rice has hit .241/.327/.497 with 12 home runs and 25 RBIs over 56 games while covering the DH role in Stanton’s absence.
  • Stanton’s return will force manager Aaron Boone to juggle daily lineup decisions that have had one of Rice, Jasson Dominguez, Trent Grisham, Cody Bellinger or Paul Goldschmidt sitting each game.
  • Stanton expects to manage lingering elbow pain and will require ongoing maintenance to sustain his comeback.
