GHMC Sets Dec. 29 Start for Citywide Clean-Up, Tightens Stray Dog Oversight

The month-long campaign spans 300 wards and couples waste removal with daily checks at hospitals and schools to curb dog-bite risks.

Overview

  • Commissioner R.V. Karnan announced a special sanitation drive from December 29 to January 31 covering all 300 wards in Hyderabad.
  • Operations begin with cleaning foot overbridges, then extend to flyovers, roadsides, medians, lakes and nalas, footpaths and parks, and construction and demolition waste.
  • Zonal and deputy commissioners were told to closely monitor work so visible improvements are achieved at garbage-vulnerable points and other hotspots.
  • Veterinary staff were put on notice for dog-bite incidents, with deputy director-level officers ordered to inspect hospitals, schools and crowded areas daily.
  • Officials were directed to capture stray dogs entering hospital campuses, impose spot fines for littering and illegal dumping, remove scrap vehicles and dilapidated toilets, and promote waste segregation and composting in schools.
