GHMC Clears 3,945 MT of Waste, Removes 52 Abandoned Vehicles in Citywide Drive

A two-day e-waste collection on January 12–13 will expand the effort under Swachh Bharat.

Overview

  • Sanitation teams operated at 2,526 locations over the past 11 days, targeting roads, footpaths, flyovers, foot overbridges, garbage‑vulnerable points and parks.
  • The drive spans all 300 wards with sustained field monitoring and is scheduled to continue through January 31.
  • Collected refuse includes 2,910 metric tonnes of solid waste and 1,035 metric tonnes of construction and demolition debris transported to dumping sites.
  • The e-waste push, run with HiMSW Limited, will collect household appliances, IT and telecom equipment, consumer electronics, batteries and UPS units for transport to the Dundigal processing facility.
  • Residents are urged to report abandoned vehicles with exact locations via the GHMC helpline at 040-2111 1111, with Traffic Police support used where needed to clear obstructions.
