Ghaziabad Seizes 3.44 Lakh Kg of Banned Firecrackers in UPNCR Diwali Crackdown

State orders using BNSS, BNS and Explosives Act powers are driving raids across districts.

Overview

  • Uttar Pradesh DGP Rajeev Krishna ordered state-wide inspections and seizures targeting the manufacture, storage and sale of illegal firecrackers, with penalties of up to five years’ jail and fines of up to ₹1 lakh for violations.
  • Ghaziabad police sealed warehouses in the Bhojpur area and arrested three people after seizing about 344,000 kilograms of banned firecrackers valued at roughly ₹6.25 crore under BNSS and Explosives Act provisions.
  • Lucknow Police, under ‘Operation Prahar,’ reported multiple large hauls in the past week, including a 16-quintal seizure during a multi-house raid in Nagaram that led to three detentions.
  • Police in Gurugram and Faridabad intensified checks at entry points and markets, reporting seizures of more than 230 kilograms in Gurugram and about 510 kilograms in Faridabad.
  • Officials say illicit supplies are funneled from neighboring districts such as Kanpur, Rae Bareli and Unnao using concealed consignments and home-based units, making full eradication before Diwali unlikely.
