Ghatkopar Chawl Fire Injures Six, Including Four Children, Two Adults Critical

A probe is underway into a possible cylinder-related trigger after crews confined the blaze to a single room.

Overview

  • The fire was reported at 12:49 pm Monday in Chawl No. 10, Sai Nagar on 90-Feet Road in Ghatkopar East.
  • Mumbai Fire Brigade, police, BMC ward staff and a 108 ambulance responded, and the blaze was fully extinguished by about 1:28–1:30 pm.
  • Flames were limited to a roughly 10x10 ft first-floor room, affecting electrical wiring, a leaking LPG cylinder, a gas stove, utensils and clothes.
  • All six victims were taken to Rajawadi Hospital, where the four children sustained 2–12% burns and were reported stable.
  • Two adults — Dalat Devi Mukhiya, 40, with about 15% burns, and Nageshwar Mukhiya, 45, with about 55% burns — remain critical as the exact cause is investigated, with a cylinder blast cited prima facie.
