The Getty Villa Museum reopened June 27, 2025, nearly six months after it was damaged in the Los Angeles wildfires, in Pacific Palisades. The hills behind the museum are charred from the January fires that destroyed much of the surrounding area.

Overview

  • The villa’s fire-resistant design and efforts by Getty teams and LAFD firefighters averted structural damage when the blaze swept the grounds in January.
  • Crew members have removed 1,415 fire-damaged trees and meticulously cleaned soot-covered surfaces, exterior murals and melted irrigation systems.
  • Advance reservations are required and new parking protocols help manage visitor flow under the four-day operating schedule.
  • The Kingdom of Pylos: Warrior-Princes of Ancient Greece exhibit features over 230 Mycenaean artworks on view through January 2026.
  • An outdoor theater production of Oedipus the King, Mama! is slated to open in September on the villa’s restored grounds.
