Getafe Warehouse Blaze Controlled After Preventive Hotel Evacuation

Investigators have been called in to determine the cause of Getafe’s third industrial fire this week following firefighters’ successful containment operation.

Overview

  • The blaze erupted at about 5:15 a.m. in a warehouse housing cranes and heavy machinery on Camino del Canalizo near the A-4.
  • Nineteen units from Bomberos de la Comunidad de Madrid battled the fire and held it at bay by dawn, remaining on site to cool hotspots.
  • Roughly 100 guests at the neighboring Gran Hotel Los Ángeles were evacuated as smoke engulfed the area and all were accounted for without need for medical care.
  • The fire destroyed most of the warehouse’s structure and equipment, collapsing parts of the nave and fully incinerating several cranes.
  • Following this third industrial fire in Getafe since last Monday, authorities are scrutinizing safety protocols and conducting official investigations.
