Gervonta Davis Sued Over Alleged Assault as Jake Paul Netflix Bout Enters Limbo

The civil filing by Courtney Rossel has prompted a police inquiry, casting the planned Netflix exhibition into doubt.

Overview

  • Court records show Rossel filed a civil lawsuit on Oct. 30 in Miami-Dade County accusing Davis of battery, aggravated battery, false imprisonment, kidnapping and intentional infliction of emotional distress.
  • The complaint alleges a 4:15 a.m. Oct. 27 incident at Tootsie's Cabaret in Miami Gardens in which Davis allegedly dragged, choked and struck Rossel after pulling her from a VIP lounge to a parking garage.
  • A Miami Gardens Police Department spokesperson said Davis was named as the suspect in a recently filed police report, and Rossel’s attorney says investigators are seeking club security footage.
  • Davis’s trainer Calvin Ford dismissed the lawsuit as “nonsense,” while Sports Illustrated reports Netflix and Jake Paul’s team are exploring replacement opponents and have sent an offer to Ryan Garcia for a potential December bout.
  • The case is civil, not criminal; Rossel seeks compensatory and punitive damages and a jury trial, and prior domestic-violence charges against Davis from July were dropped after a separate accuser declined to proceed.
