Germany’s Post-Holiday Christmas Tree Drop-Offs Roll Out in Munich, Hamm and Dresden

Officials require undecorated trees at designated sites to keep recycling streams clean.

Overview

  • Munich adds temporary collection points to its 11 recycling centers, with public drop-offs running Jan. 7–Feb. 4 and limited school and daycare intake on Jan. 7–9 and 12–13.
  • Property managers in Munich can book paid bulk collection for at least 20 trees between Jan. 20 and Feb. 28 via the AWM customer service.
  • Hamm’s ASH starts curbside collection on Jan. 7, organized by postal-code areas through Jan. 15, accepting only undecorated household trees up to two meters without root balls.
  • Dresden operates more than 100 drop-off sites through Jan. 10 and allows free recycling-center drop-off until Jan. 31.
  • Municipalities route collected trees to compost, mulch or biomass plants, and private burning in Saxony is generally prohibited except for limited Knutfest events.
