Germany’s Outdoor Pools Wrap Up 2025 With Mixed Attendance as Munich Surpasses 1.025 Million

After a rainy July, late-summer heat lifted turnout, prompting staggered closures across cities.

Overview

  • Munich counted about 1,025,000 Freibad visits, with most pools closing on September 16, an extension at Schyrenbad to September 30, Dantebad switching to winter operation, and dog-bathing days set for September 17–18 at Ungererbad and September 19–20 at Dantebad.
  • Frankfurt’s Main-Bad in Bornheim is running renewed trial openings for the public on Wednesday with hygiene values under review before full reopening, while the city reports a “mediocre” season with just over 800,000 visits and final Freibad dates stretching to October 6 in heated Hausen.
  • Hesse operators report largely positive results despite weather swings, including 107,400 visits at Rosenbad Rosenau through August 29, with closures and events scheduled such as Rüsselsheim extended to September 7, Hanau closing September 14 with a dog day on September 21, and Wiesbaden’s Kleinfeldchen open through September 21.
  • In Swabia, Neu-Ulm’s Donaubad logged about 97,000 visits so far with security used on peak days and is open weather-dependent to September 14, while Weißenhorn targets September 21 for closing after considering security on surge days and Senden plans to operate through September 15 with additional guards on hot days.
  • Elsewhere, Bochum is phasing out its season with Naturfreibad Linden closing September 7 and Werne likely operating into mid-September, and Frankenthal closed August 31 after reaching 103,663 visits, boosted by a new Wibit attraction.
