Overview

• Germany recorded 11.5 billion local transport passengers in 2024, about 2% below the pre-pandemic year 2019.
• Total transport performance rose to 121 billion person-kilometres, up 7% versus 2019, with average trips around 10.5 km overall and 23 km on regional rail.
• Buses remained the most used mode with 5.4 billion passengers (down 1% from 2019), tram usage fell 5% to 3.9 billion, and regional rail counted about 2.8 billion riders in a year affected by strikes.
