Germany’s First P-8A Poseidon Reaches Nordholz, Launching Maritime Patrol Fleet Upgrade

The delivery begins a two-year rollout aligned with allied training, NATO integration.

  • Aircraft 63+01 was officially accepted on Oct. 1 and touched down in Germany on Nov. 7 before being welcomed at Marine Fliegerhorst Nordholz.
  • It is the first of eight Poseidons that will replace the German Navy’s aging P-3C Orion fleet.
  • The P-8A brings long-range patrol, anti-submarine warfare and ISR capabilities through advanced radar, acoustic sensors and secure communications.
  • Further deliveries over the next two years will enable phased entry into front-line service and expanded NATO maritime missions.
  • Boeing named ESG and Lufthansa Technik as sustainment partners to provide integration, training, support and high availability for the fleet.
