Germany’s Deutschlandticket Will Cost €66.80 From January 2027

A new cost‑index formula ties the price to rising personnel, energy and operating costs with public compensation fixed at €3 billion.

Overview

  • The Koordinierungsrat Deutschlandticket formally set the price at €66.80 per month on Wednesday for a start date of 1 January 2027 and also raised the Jobticket to €63.46 and the Semesterticket to €40.08.
  • For 2027 the price was calculated by D‑Tix using a cost index that weights personnel costs most heavily alongside energy and other operating costs and applies a value factor that reflects the capped federal and state payments of €1.5 billion each.
  • Passenger groups and environmental organizations criticised the decision as unfair because the fixed €3 billion subsidy does not rise with costs and because the government is simultaneously funding a new fuel subsidy for drivers.
  • Transport operators and the VDV said the early decision provides necessary lead time for customer communication and distribution changes and that about three months are needed to adapt systems and ticket sales.
  • Higher, regularly indexed fares could make the ticket less affordable for some of the roughly 14–14.5 million subscribers, risk weakening the shift from cars to public transport and put pressure on local tariff offers and future subsidy debates.
