  • German-registered passenger cars logged 594 million kilometers in 2024, a rise of 3 million from 2023 and the first increase since 2018.
  • Average annual distance per car fell to 12,309 km last year, marking the tenth consecutive year of declining per-vehicle use.
  • Record vehicle registrations drove the overall uptick in total kilometers despite weaker individual usage.
  • Gasoline cars accounted for about 283 million km of the total, diesel vehicles covered roughly 230 million km, and electric, hybrid or gas models made up the remaining 81 million km.
  • Fuel delivery data show gasoline shipments rose 2.1% to 17.7 million tonnes in 2024, while diesel deliveries declined 3.3% to 32.2 million tonnes.
