  • The highest state-level densities were recorded in Saarland (646), Rheinland-Pfalz (641) and Bavaria (635), while Berlin (334), Bremen (427) and Hamburg (435) were lowest.
  • Year over year, car density fell in all three city-states and edged down in Hesse from 623 to 622, even as the national average rose.
  • Electric vehicles account for 1.65 million cars or 3.3% of the fleet, with about 250,000 pure EVs registered in H1 2025 for a record 17.7% share of new registrations.
  • Wolfsburg posted the nation’s highest local density at about 956 cars per 1,000 residents, Euskirchen reached 803 per 1,000 due to large rental fleets, and Ingolstadt led Bavaria with 737 per 1,000.
