Overview
- Aldis/Blids logged 99,930 cloud-to-ground strikes nationwide in 2025, less than half the 209,619 recorded in 2024.
- Multiple states hit multi-year lows in the 2005/2006–2025 record, with examples including Bavaria at 30,096, Baden-Württemberg at 14,813, North Rhine-Westphalia at 11,057, Lower Saxony at about 9,000, Schleswig-Holstein at 1,824, Hamburg at 77, and Berlin at 105.
- The DWD attributes the slump mainly to a lack of moisture and instability in most thunder-prone months, with parts of July running notably cooler.
- The seasonal pattern held at much lower levels, with June leading at 29,453 strikes nationally and very few in winter months, including just one in December.
- Aldis/Blids counts only cloud-to-ground flashes once per strike, affecting comparisons with other datasets, and similarly low 2025 totals were reported for Austria, Switzerland, the Netherlands, and France.
