Germany's 2025 Honey Harvest Sets Record as Yields Reach 37.5 kg per Colony

Favorable weather created ideal foraging conditions, the Mayen bee institute reports.

Overview

  • Beekeepers reported an average 37.5 kg per colony, up 5.9 kg from 2024 and the highest level since the surveys began in 2011.
  • Retail prices for a 500 g jar of blossom honey rose about 3% to roughly €6.60 as costs for jars, mite treatment, fuel and supplemental feed weighed on producers.
  • Bavaria lagged with 26.2 kg per colony, about 8 kg below last year, with yields ranging from 34 kg in Lower Franconia to 19.1 kg in Upper Bavaria.
  • Results come from two nationwide surveys of spring and summer harvests totaling 13,377 responses, including more than 1,500 replies per harvest from Bavaria.
  • Domestic production still covers only about half of Germany’s honey consumption, requiring imports from countries such as Romania, Argentina and China, with an estimated 1.2 million colonies nationwide.
