Overview
- Aldis/Blids counted 99,930 ground strikes nationwide in 2025, the lowest in its records dating back to 2005/2006.
- Bavaria still led in absolute numbers with 30,096 strikes, followed by Baden-Württemberg with 14,813 and North Rhine-Westphalia with 11,057.
- Berlin and Brandenburg saw about a 73% year-on-year decline, logging 105 and 4,633 strikes respectively, while Hamburg recorded 77 and the Saarland 718.
- Lightning was concentrated in early summer, with June the peak month at 29,453 nationwide, and virtually none in winter, including just one in December.
- The Aldis/Blids method counts only ground strikes and logs each strike once, so totals differ from datasets that include in-cloud discharges or multiple pulses per flash.
