Germany's 2025 Cherry Harvest Rebounds to 47,100 Tonnes

Sweet cherries drove the increase, with sour-cherry output held down by fewer orchards.

Overview

  • Destatis’ final estimate as of August 20 sets the cherry crop at 47,100 tonnes, 4.2% above the 2015–2024 average and 33.1% higher than 2024’s weak harvest.
  • Sweet cherries reached 37,300 tonnes, accounting for 79% of the total, with gains linked to mild bloom conditions and limited frost or hail damage.
  • Sour cherries totaled 9,800 tonnes, roughly 20% below the decade average, reflecting a 25% drop in planted area from 2,000 to 1,500 hectares and a downgrade from June’s 11,700‑tonne estimate.
  • Baden‑Württemberg produced 17,600 tonnes of sweet cherries (47% of the national crop), while year‑over‑year shifts varied sharply: Baden‑Württemberg −1%, Niedersachsen +67%, Rheinland‑Pfalz +76%, Bayern +30%.
  • The first pear estimate forecasts 40,200 tonnes, about 5.6% above the ten‑year average, with figures still provisional as final tree‑fruit estimates outside cherries are due in November.
