Germany’s 2025 Apple Harvest Projected to Top One Million Tonnes

Favorable spring weather during bloom lifted yield prospects, according to growers’ first survey relayed by the Federal Statistical Office.

Overview

  • Germany’s apple crop is estimated at about 1,009,000 tonnes, the first above one million since 2022, around 3.9% above the ten-year average and nearly 16% higher than 2024, according to the Federal Statistical Office.
  • Apples remain the country’s dominant tree fruit with 32,700 hectares under cultivation, heavily concentrated in Baden‑Württemberg and Lower Saxony, which together account for 61.1% of orchard area and 68.6% of production.
  • Plums and damsons are forecast at roughly 44,500 tonnes, slightly above the decade average, with Rheinland‑Pfalz expected to reach about 11,000 tonnes as Baden‑Württemberg anticipates around 17,200 tonnes, about one third less than last year.
  • The figures come from the season’s first growers’ estimate compiled in July and published via the Federal Statistical Office.
  • Wine regions have begun the grape harvest, and the first Federweißer is expected in the coming days, according to the German Wine Institute.
