Germany Turns Sharply Autumnal as DWD Issues Rain and Wind Warnings

A cold front is driving persistent southern rain, stormy coastal gusts, a marked temperature drop, DWD warns.

Overview

  • DWD alerts highlight prolonged rain in Baden-Württemberg and southern to central regions, with about 30–50 l/m² by Monday and locally up to around 60 l/m² in orographic zones.
  • Thunderstorms are expected in areas including Franconia, parts of Swabia and the southwest, with risks of heavy rain, hail and gusty winds.
  • Coastal and northern areas face strong to storm-force gusts generally 65–85 km/h, especially along the North Sea, before winds gradually ease.
  • Daytime temperatures have plunged to roughly 10–18°C, though parts of southeast Bavaria stay warmer briefly before the front clears.
  • Forecasters caution that saturated soils raise the chance of localized flooding and transport disruption, and further rain episodes are possible into midweek.
