Overview
- The Federal Office for Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance (BBK) will send a test warning at 11:00 and a test Entwarnung at about 11:45 on Thursday, 10 September 2026, using radio, TV, warning apps, digital displays and Cell Broadcast.
- Cell Broadcast sends messages directly to all switched-on, reception-capable phones in a mobile cell without an app but requires Android 11 or newer or iOS 16.1 or newer and cannot reach phones that are off, in flight mode, or in a dead zone.
- Whether local sirens or loudspeaker vehicles sound is decided by each municipality, so coverage will be uneven and some places such as Stuttgart will not trigger stationary sirens during the exercise.
- Users can turn off Cell Broadcast for lower warning levels and the BBK says the probe will be sent at warning level 2, meaning some people may not receive the test even with modern devices.
- The Warntag is intended as a technical stress test and to familiarise the public with signals, and authorities urge people to warn children, older adults and other vulnerable residents in advance to reduce distress.
