Overview
- On July 21, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius and U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin agreed that Germany would purchase two Patriot batteries from the United States for Ukraine.
- To bridge delivery delays, Berlin will transfer two Patriot systems from its existing inventory to Ukraine immediately while awaiting the newly purchased units.
- NATO partners including the Netherlands and Norway will supply the final three batteries under a framework endorsed by President Donald Trump that allocates costs to non-U.S. allies.
- Germany expects to spend about €2 billion to acquire the two U.S.-built Patriot batteries designated for Ukraine.
- Germany has already donated three Patriot batteries to Ukraine and currently deploys two in Poland and one for training, leaving six units available for redeployment.
