Overview
- The nationwide Warntag will take place on Thursday, September 10, with the BBK sending a central test alert through MoWaS at 11:00 and an Entwarnung (all-clear) scheduled for about 11:45.
- The BBK will push the test through multiple channels — radio, television, warning apps, digital city displays, sirens and Cell Broadcast — so the same MoWaS message reaches people by different routes.
- Cell Broadcast will, for the first time at national scale, deliver both the initial warning and the Entwarnung directly to compatible smartphones without an app or registration, but only to devices that are switched on, not in airplane mode and running Android 11 or iOS 16.1 or newer.
- Local participation varies because municipalities join the Warntag voluntarily; Hamburg will start pre-messaging at 10:45 to apps and about 1,700 digital displays and will trigger more than 200 sirens at 11:00 as part of the exercise.
- Authorities urge citizens to check app and phone alert settings, warn relatives and people who may be distressed by loud tones, secure pets before the test, and report any problems to the BBK survey open from September 10 through September 17 so officials can fix technical and procedural gaps.
