Germany Sets 59.19-Metre Mettbrötchen World Record

RID's certification of a new category creates a clear pathway for more local record challenges.

Overview

  • The Rekord-Institut für Deutschland (RID) measured and certified a 59.19 metre Mettbrötchen on Saturday and issued the first official certificate for the new category.
  • Organizers built the continuous sandwich by joining 40 baguettes, torch-baking the linked dough, spreading about 50 kilograms of raw minced pork (Mett) on the lower halves and topping it with raw onions before measuring the finished product.
  • The event served as a promotional act for the remodeled Möbel Höffner in Siebenlehn, which the company says reopened after roughly €10 million in renovations to the site formerly operated as Möbel Mahler.
  • After RID verification the giant Mettbrötchen was cut and given free to visitors who had formed a long queue to attend the store opening.
  • The record follows a pattern of 2026 regional sandwich contests, including long fish sandwiches in Rostock and Bremen, and RID said it expects more challenges to the new Mettbrötchen category.
