Overview
- The Dresden court is expected to rule Tuesday in the case against Jian Guo, a former Brussels staffer to AfD politician Maximilian Krah.
- Guo is accused of spying for China since 2002 and of using his access in Krah’s European Parliament office to collect intelligence on European affairs and the AfD.
- Prosecutors seek seven and a half years in prison for Guo and two years and nine months for co-defendant Yaqi X., who is also accused of targeting German defense firms.
- Yaqi X., who worked for a company serving Leipzig/Halle Airport, admitted passing flight schedules and cargo movements to Guo, with prosecutors alleging she tracked military planes, troops and drones including shipments to Israel.
- Separately, Krah is under investigation for suspected bribery and money laundering with his immunity lifted and his offices and home searched, while he denies allegations as media cite files reporting payments from companies linked to Guo.
