Germany Set for Unseasonably Mild, Windy Start to November After DWD Storm Alerts

A strong southwest flow is set to lift temperatures across Germany, keeping conditions gusty.

Overview

  • DWD issued storm and wind‑gust warnings across much of Bavaria on October 28, with peaks to 80 km/h and up to 90 km/h above 1000 meters, generally valid until 18:00 (20:00 in high terrain) and with several districts explicitly excluded.
  • In Saxony, the weather service warned of brief thunderstorms and gusts near 80 km/h, locally around 100 km/h on Fichtelberg, before winds eased in lower elevations later in the day.
  • Forecasts for October 31 to November 1 call for a short warm spell with widespread mid‑teens and around 20°C, locally 22°C or higher along the Upper Rhine and in föhn‑influenced Alpine areas.
  • The mild phase arrives with persistent wind, at times stormy at the coasts and on higher terrain, and with intermittent rain—cloudier and wetter in the northwest, brighter in the south and southeast.
  • Nights stay markedly cooler with localized frost risk in sheltered lowlands; after a warm Saturday, rain spreads on Sunday and temperatures trend back toward the low to mid teens next week.
