Germany Set for Unseasonably Mild Start to November as DWD Flags Gusty Conditions

A strengthening southwesterly airflow, locally enhanced by Alpine föhn, is forecast to drive temperatures toward 20–22 C even as exposed coasts and higher terrain remain prone to stormy bursts of wind.

Overview

  • DWD maintains wind alerts across multiple states, with widespread gusts around 50–80 km/h and peaks near 90 km/h in exposed Alpine areas and up to about 100 km/h on high summits such as the Fichtelberg.
  • Forecasters expect a transition from a mostly dry, mild Wednesday to increasing clouds and overnight rain from the west, followed by a breezier but brighter Thursday.
  • Temperatures are projected to rise at the turn of the month, with around 20 C possible in parts of Germany and up to 22 C in the southwest and Upper Rhine, while the Alpine edge may locally top 20 C under föhn.
  • Authorities caution about hazards from falling branches and unsecured objects during gusty periods and advise securing outdoor items as the mild spell will still feature lively winds.
  • Regional contrasts persist: NRW and the north turn windier and at times wet, Berlin/Brandenburg sees a brief cool, clear night with local ground frost, and Bavaria enjoys frequent sun before showers return late weekend.
