Germany Secures Deutschlandticket Funding Through 2030 as Bundesrat Backs Law

Pricing from 2027 will follow a still-undefined cost index.

Overview

  • The Bundesrat joined the Bundestag in approving a change to the Regionalisierungsgesetz that locks in €3 billion annually for the pass through 2030.
  • The federal government and the Länder will each contribute €1.5 billion per year to compensate transport operators for revenue shortfalls.
  • The monthly subscription will rise to €63 starting January 2026 after moving to €58 at the start of 2025.
  • Beginning in 2027 the price will be set each year by an index reflecting wages, energy prices and general costs, with the methodology yet to be finalized.
  • Roughly 14 million people use the ticket, as state leaders welcome planning certainty but warn that higher track access charges could strain budgets and note the shift from a pledge to hold the price at €58 until 2029.
