Germany Recalls Crottin de Chavignol Goat Cheese Over Suspected E. Coli O103 Contamination

Health officials urge buyers to avoid the batch pending confirmation.

Overview

  • The affected product is Crottin de Chavignol AOP fermier LRDC, a soft raw-goat-milk cheese from Fromagerie Pierre Jacquin & Fils sold as fresh-counter items.
  • Only batch J52600094 with a best-before date of 27 October 2025 is implicated, with sales reported since 19 September 2025.
  • Distribution ran through wholesaler FROMI GmbH to retailers in Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, Berlin, Hamburg, Hesse, Lower Saxony and North Rhine-Westphalia.
  • Authorities cite suspected Shiga-toxin–producing E. coli O103, which can cause gastrointestinal illness within 2–7 days and, rarely, severe kidney complications in children.
  • Consumers are advised not to eat the cheese, to return purchases to the point of sale, and to consult a doctor if symptoms such as cramps, fever or bloody diarrhea occur.
