Overview

  • Spring rainfall averaged 96 liters per square meter, about 48 percent below the 1961–1990 norm, marking one of the three driest springs since 1881.
  • Mean temperatures climbed to 9.8 °C, 1.9 °C above the long-term average, with the first 25 °C day on April 12 and initial 30 °C reading on May 2.
  • Analysis by Climate Central and World Weather Attribution shows roughly half of Germany’s 50 extreme heat days over the past year were driven by climate change, doubling expected frequency.
  • Drought stress has depressed river levels, heightened wildfire danger and disrupted the growth of key crops like corn and sugar beets.
  • The Deutscher Wetterdienst warns of intense storms with heavy rain, hail and strong winds in early June, heightening flash flood risks over hard, dry ground.
