Germany Launches New Round of Highway Closures as Bridge Works Intensify

Officials attribute the closures to urgent safety work alongside long-planned rebuilds.

Overview

  • Magdeburg will close access ramps on 13 October, lay a fall-bed from 14 October, and demolish the Ringbrücke over Brenneckestraße during daytime from 20–25 October, with temporary bridges planned for early November and signed detours including via the A14.
  • Berlin’s A100 and A111 face rolling night closures through next week for maintenance, and the A100 at the Innsbrucker Platz tunnel will be shut from Friday 20:00 to Monday 05:00 for urgent repairs, according to the Verkehrsinformationszentrale and Autobahn GmbH.
  • The Kreuz Kaiserberg rebuild brings staged ramp shutdowns from 29 October, an A40 closure between Duisburg and Kaiserberg from 17–20 October for bridge removal, and a full A3 closure between Oberhausen‑West and Breitscheid from 7–17 November to dismantle connecting bridges, with detours via A524/A59/A42.
  • Twistringen will fully close the B51 to vehicles between Mörsener Kirchweg and Harpstedter Straße from 15–24 October to lay new asphalt, with authorities advising local access adjustments.
  • On the A1 Weserbrücke, prolonged congestion persists under phased restrictions; project manager Deges says the current renovation is slated to finish by end‑2028, with a replacement build expected to start in the early 2030s pending political funding.
