Overview
- The Central Council of Jews in Germany and publisher Ernst Klett Verlag have produced an eight-volume German-language series called Da’at Hadorot, with the first volume focused on the Torah entering classrooms at the start of the school year.
- The books are designed to be curriculum-aligned so they can be used in Jewish schools and in state schools across all 16 federal states where Jewish religious instruction is offered.
- Project leaders say the series uses interactive classroom tools such as puzzles, games, QR-code activities and Hebrew terms with translations to help students learn and to ease the workload for teachers who previously had to assemble disparate materials.
- Seven additional volumes covering Tanach, prayer, ethics, halachah, festivals, life-cycle topics and Jewish history are planned for annual release to complete the program.
- The launch comes as federal officials call for stronger teacher training to confront rising antisemitism in schools and to present Jewish life beyond Holocaust- or conflict-focused frames.
