Germany Industrial Output Rises 1.8% in October as Construction Leads

Officials warn of limited near-term recovery due to weak external demand.

Die Industrieproduktion in Deutschland hat auch im Oktober zugelegt. Gegenüber September stieg sie um 1,5 Prozent, wie das Statistische Bundesamt in Wiesbaden am Montag mitteilte.

  • Industrial production excluding energy and construction rose 1.5% from September on a seasonally and calendar‑adjusted basis.
  • Construction (+3.3%), machinery (+2.8%) and electronics (+3.9%) advanced, while automotive output fell 1.3%.
  • On a three‑month basis (Aug–Oct vs May–Jul), total output declined 1.5% and core industry dropped 1.9%.
  • Compared with a year earlier, overall production was up 0.8% and core industry edged down 0.1%; energy‑intensive sectors rose 0.6% month on month and were 0.1% lower year on year.
  • September’s gain was revised to 1.1% from 1.3%, and the economics ministry flagged weak foreign demand and Chinese export restrictions with no clear rebound expected before year‑end.
