Germany Forms Taskforce to Rebuild Ukraine’s Energy Grid After Kyiv Strike

Berlin cites tens of thousands of delivered power components to bolster supplies before winter.

Overview

  • Economics Minister Katherina Reiche began a multi-day visit to Kyiv and pledged German support to rebuild Ukraine’s damaged energy infrastructure.
  • She announced a dedicated taskforce for Ukrainian energy reconstruction to coordinate assistance and accelerate repairs.
  • German companies including Siemens, RWE and E.on have shipped equipment such as transformers, substations, combined-heat-and-power units and gas compressors, with 32,000 electricity-industry goods reported delivered.
  • Reiche said access to power and heat has been restored for 1.3 million Ukrainians but warned the effort must be reinforced before the heating season.
  • The pledge followed an overnight strike on Kyiv that killed at least two and injured twelve, with Ukraine reporting the use of dozens of drones and nine ballistic missiles, as Berlin also signals closer defense cooperation and long-term backing.
