Germany Flags E. Coli in Jägermettwurst and Recalls Separate Bockwurst Batch Over Spoilage Risk

Official notices instruct consumers not to eat the flagged batches, with refunds available at the point of purchase.

Overview

  • Altmärker recalled Jägermettwurst (250 g, vacuum-packed) lot PR817110 with best-before 10.10.2025 after official tests detected Shiga-toxin–producing E. coli (STEC).
  • The affected Jägermettwurst was distributed via Rewe, Norma, Metro and Edeka across multiple German states, and customers can return it for a refund.
  • Health agencies warn STEC infections can cause diarrhea and abdominal pain and, in severe cases, bloody diarrhea, fever and hemolytic uremic syndrome, especially in vulnerable groups.
  • Separately, Metten withdrew a specific “Dicke Sauerländer” Bockwurst batch (5×80 g cans, lot L-2798183, MHD 05.09.2026, time codes 21:00–21:50) due to a preservation error that may cause early spoilage.
  • The Bockwurst batch was sold at Lidl and Netto in parts of North Rhine-Westphalia, Lower Saxony, Rhineland-Palatinate and Hesse, with the company calling it a precautionary action coordinated with authorities.
