Germany Faces Unsettled Start to Autumn as DWD Warns of Heavy Rain and Gusty Storms

The DWD says summer 2025 was warm and very sunny without breaking records.

Overview

  • Meteorologists expect a continued mix of rain, wind and sun into Monday, with no sustained return to stable summer weather.
  • Heavy‑rain alerts are in force in parts of Bavaria, with 15–25, locally up to 30, liters per square meter in a short time and isolated lightning possible.
  • A rain band moves in Sunday into Monday, bringing stronger showers and gusts around 60–65 km/h mainly in the west and southwest, with localized flooding and aquaplaning risks.
  • A marked split persists as the east stays friendlier and warmer, often reaching 25–27 C, while some model runs hint at early‑September highs near 30–31 C, especially in the east, with low confidence.
  • The DWD’s preliminary summer review puts the seasonal mean near 18.0–18.5 C, about 227 liters of rain per square meter and roughly 720 sunshine hours nationwide.
