Germany Faces Severe Frost Before Sudden Warmfront Brings Springlike Temperatures

Temperatures plummet to nearly -20°C in parts of Germany, but a dramatic shift later this week is expected to bring highs of up to 19°C in the west.

The coldest temperature recorded was -19.7°C in Deutschneudorf-Brüderwiese, Saxony, with other regions experiencing similarly extreme frost.
Berlin and Brandenburg saw lows of -12.5°C, while parts of Bavaria and Thuringia also reported temperatures below -10°C.
The frost is forecasted to ease starting Thursday, as warmer air moves in from the southwest, raising temperatures significantly.
By Friday, western regions like the Rhineland could see highs of 18-19°C, marking a stark contrast to the recent deep freeze.
Meteorologists warn of potential glatteis (black ice) risks during the transition, as rain may fall on frozen surfaces in some areas.
