Germany Faces Major Transport Disruptions as A59 Closes and Munich S‑Bahn Halted

Officials cite urgent safety risks behind the shutdowns.

Overview

  • A59 north–south corridor: a full closure toward Leverkusen begins at 21:00 on 15 October between Dreieck Düsseldorf‑Süd and Richrath, extends to Monheim next week, and the first construction phase runs about eight months due to severely damaged concrete slabs.
  • Autobahn GmbH set wide‑area detours for the A59 via A46/A3/A542 and will use demand‑controlled traffic lights on relief routes with municipalities to smooth flows.
  • Munich S‑Bahn Stammstrecke was completely suspended on the morning of 15 October between Pasing and Ostbahnhof for signal repairs expected to last until around 11:00, with trains rerouted and U‑Bahn, tram and bus accepted as alternatives.
  • A7 north of Hannover is fully closed toward Hamburg after a truck burned out between Großburgwedel and Mellendorf; recovery is underway and an overpass is being inspected for possible heat damage, with several kilometers of queue reported.
  • Separate road events compound delays: the A43 is shut between Sprockhövel and Wuppertal for truck recovery after a multi‑vehicle crash, and the A99 near Munich has ongoing lane reductions and timed ramp closures for asphalt renewal through late October.
