Overview

  • The Bundesamt für Bevölkerungsschutz und Katastrophenhilfe warned that older adults, children, pregnant women and chronically ill people face heightened risks during prolonged high temperatures and should seek help at early signs of heat distress.
  • Individuals are advised to consume at least 1.5 to 2 liters of lukewarm or cool mineral water, juice spritzers or herbal and fruit teas daily while replenishing electrolytes lost through sweating with mineral-rich foods or drinks.
  • People should shift strenuous workouts to early morning or late evening hours and favor activities in shaded forests or water environments to mitigate cardiovascular strain from heat.
  • The Deutscher Tierschutzbund stressed that pets must never be left in parked vehicles and that dog walks, shaded rest areas and accessible drinking water are essential for animal welfare in high temperatures.
  • To keep indoor spaces bearable, residents should ventilate rooms during cooler periods, block midday sun with darkened windows and use lukewarm showers or cold arm and wrist douses rather than freezing water to avoid stressing the body.
