Overview
- The Bundeswehr formally stood up the sixth Heimatschutzregiment at Schlosspark Möckern on October 1.
- The regiment will base its staff, supply and training companies in Altengrabow.
- Existing companies from Berlin, Potsdam, Magdeburg and Klietz are now subordinated to the new unit.
- The Division Heimatschutz now comprises six regiments supported by 60 Heimatschutzkompanien that were previously under regional commands.
- Units are assigned to protect critical infrastructure, secure rest and transfer points for allied troop movements, and provide peacetime civil assistance, with state leader Reiner Haseloff urging broader public support and European resilience.
