Germany Deploys Eurofighters to Poland to Bolster NATO Air Policing

The rotation reinforces NATO's eastern flank in response to recent Russian fighter and drone activity near Allied airspace.

Overview

  • Five Eurofighters and about 150 German service members are deploying to Malbork, Poland, to conduct NATO Air Policing with 24/7 Quick Reaction Alert coverage.
  • The mission is slated to run through the end of March 2026 under a temporary rotation confirmed by the German Air Force.
  • The detachment draws from Tactical Air Wing 31 “Boelcke” and includes pilots, technical specialists, logisticians, security personnel and military police.
  • German officials link the move to recent airspace incidents involving Russian aircraft and drones, and note it complements an ongoing Luftwaffe detachment in Romania.
  • Allied posture on the eastern flank also features a new Dutch mission securing the Rzeszów logistics hub with roughly 300 troops and air-defense systems since December 1.
