- The federal cabinet approved CyberGovSecure on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, to replace a system where each ministry ran its own cyber defenses.
- The plan sets a new leadership group under the Digital Ministry to issue common rules and to coordinate closely with the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI).
- Claudia Plattner, head of the BSI, is scheduled to act as a de facto chief information security officer to coordinate rollout with each ministry’s security officers.
- The program requires stricter, uniform settings for servers, office PCs, service phones and portable devices and makes an additional authentication step beyond simple passwords mandatory.
- Extra staff and budget have been requested from 2027 and annual progress reports to the government are mandated, while a separate Cyberdome early‑detection project remains in early conception and will need further approvals to become operational.
