Germany Celebrates Carnival Season with Hundreds of Parades and Festivities

From Wasungen's 489th parade to Herxheim's largest procession, thousands of revelers gather for traditional Fasching events across the country.

The historic Fasching parade in Wasungen, Thuringia, marks its 489th year with 2,000 participants and 99 floats under the motto 'Ob jong, ob alt, mie könne's halt' ('Whether young or old, we can do it').
Thuringia hosts approximately 110 Fasching parades this season, with increased security measures in place following recent attacks in other cities.
Herxheim's Fasching parade, the largest in the Südpfalz region, is expected to draw 11,000 visitors on Tuesday, with detailed plans for route changes and road closures announced.
In the Südwestpfalz region, events like the Dahner parade and Merzalben's night procession feature thousands of attendees, Guggemusik performances, and after-parties to support local traditions.
Smaller towns across Germany, including Insheim, Oberotterbach, and Pleisweiler-Oberhofen, are also hosting parades and festivities throughout the weekend and into Rosenmontag.
