Overview
- ESMA’s interim MiCA register now lists 331 authorised crypto asset service providers across the EU after its latest update.
- Six German cooperative banks — Raiffeisenbank Aidlingen, Ihre Volksbank, VR Bank Mittelfranken Mitte, Volksbank Euskirchen, VR Bank Ried Überwald and Volksbank Backnang — were added in the newest update, taking Germany’s total to 79 CASPs.
- Germany’s 79 authorised providers are more than double France’s 35 and ahead of the Netherlands’ 29, reflecting a net gain of 22 German entries since a late‑June snapshot.
- Regulators have moved from issuing licences to conducting oversight work: ESMA is reviewing authorised custodians for custody controls, operational resilience, key management, incident response and third‑party risks.
- MiCA’s July 1, 2026 deadline ended transitional national carve‑outs, making ESMA’s register the primary public reference and encouraging banks to offer crypto services through existing retail channels, which could increase customer access and reshape market competition.
