Germany Adds 18 New Entries to Intangible Cultural Heritage List

The latest additions highlight unique traditions from Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg, emphasizing the importance of cultural preservation.

Germany's nationwide list of Intangible Cultural Heritage now includes 168 entries, following the addition of 18 new traditions in March 2025.
Three Bavarian traditions—gold leaf craftsmanship in Schwabach, the Studioglas movement in Frauenau, and the Chinesenfasching in Dietfurt—were recognized for their cultural and historical significance.
Baden-Württemberg contributed two traditions: distillation craftsmanship, noted for its sustainable practices, and bell-related traditions, encompassing casting, ringing, and music.
The biennial selection process is overseen by the Culture Ministers' Conference and the German UNESCO Commission to safeguard and promote cultural diversity.
The next application round for inclusion in the list will open on April 1, 2025, continuing efforts to preserve regional cultural practices.
